Katherine + Joel from the Mountain Top!

Katherine's family designed a pretty large piece of their home and surrounding property just west of Ramona for this wedding and it couldn't have turned out nicer.  The Ceremony was at the end of the point overlooking the entire valley and the reception was on the adjactent space was a perfect compliment to a great night.

This Wedding was a Rockin' Party!  Part of the family was Korean as you'll see from the Gangnam Style recreation on the Dancefloor in the video and the whole group was just in the mood to have fun.  We also provided 8 Uplights in Gold to give the room that warm glow and accent the florals.

Here is a full day highlight video from our friends at Quixotic Weddings

August 3rd - Estancia La Jolla - Wedding Dance Party with Uplights

We used 8 LED uplights in candlelight or pale gold color for this one.
The Photobooth was out on the terrace and had a steady stream of people ALL night.
The group was ready to dance so I'll let the Video do the talking for this one.

One of our many events last night was lighting for a wedding over the pool deck at La Costa Resort.  As usual Crown Weddings exceeded expectations and delivered an over the top success.

The Videographer Benny from EK Media Productions did a quick turnaround on this footage because it was so great!

Alex & Angela - Scripps Forum, Uplighting, Band & Video DJ

Alex and Angela got married at Scripps Foruum in La Jolla with a team of truely talented wedding service providers.

Susanne Duffy of Crown Weddings designed the whole thing,  Concepts Party Rentals and Adorations Botanicals set all the Floral and decor elements to make the room look amazing, Antony Field was the vocalist that sang during dinner while his band covered the Cocktail recpetion and dinner music while The Youngrens captured it all on camera.
My contribution to the event included (20) Teal uplights on the 20ft tall white drape behind the stage and around the room, (2) stage wash lighting pieces for the band, (2) 55" screens for pictures of the bride and groom, Father/Daughter and Mother/Son during each of those dances and rotating throughout the night.  The Photobooth was tucked in the side hall and was a big hit as the night progressed.  We also arranged all the Audio and Microphones for the Ceremony on the lawn for the officiant and the guitartist.

The day started off great with beautiful weather and a Ceremony that went off perfectly and finished out with an incrdible dinner from Coast Catering and I closed the night off with an hour long set of Video DJ dance music.

Navy Wedding at Loews Coronado with DJ, uplights and Open area photobooth.

Navy Wedding at Loews Coronado - this wedding is a perfect example of this: As a DJ its not about playing the hot new songs or "keeping it real" or anything else that DJs will tell you are the important aspects of being a great DJ.   It really all comes down to playing the music that the guests love and will have fun to, whether that Pitbull or the Beatles.
We provided the Photobooth with a black drape backdrop so it was more of a mini studio than a booth.  Amber LED uplights and DJ for the Ceremony and Reception.
Tim Otto did a great job on the photography as always and Susanne Duffy of Crown Weddings,  the Event Designer and Coordinator is always the best.

Host - Emcee at the 3rd Annual ABC Excellence Awards

March 19th I hosted the ABC Excellence awards at La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad.  Members of the San Diego area Association of Bridal Consultants submit or were nominated for awards based on work that they did in the 2012 Calendar year.  Click here for a full list of Award Category Sponsors and donors who made the dinner and meet great. A special thank you to Gloria Dogue of Weddings & events by Gloria who is the ABC programs chair and oversaw the events logistics.
We had a really great plan of how the night would flow and I was planning on being at the AV table in the back making sure everything was perfect.  Unfortunately some of our board members were under the weather and we had to switch things up a little.  I had to step on stage and host the evenings events and Nick Covino from DJExtreme.com covered the AV duties for me in addition to providing a live on screen twitter feed for the event.  Every tweet that mentioned @sandiegoabc posted straight to the video screen for all to see.

Outdoor Wedding at La Costa Resort & Spa

Ivan and Chelsea's wedding was perfect and I got to work with one of my friends and a great coordinator Sabrina Cadini of La Dolce Idea.  The Ceremony and Reception were both outdoors on the patio over looking the La Costa Golf Course.  Videographer Shawn LLoyd of Lloyd Films captured it all.

The Reception was an intimate one withonly 30-40 people, set with a kings table for dinner and market lighting over the patio.

Check out this write up on the Exquisite Weddings Magazine website about a recent guest speaking session I had with Rachel Welland her team of ladies from Bliss Events.  It was an hour or so of talking DJ'ing and I brought the Dj players along so they could get a chance to check it out first hand.

My Friend Peggy Jewell from Imagination Entertainment was nice enough to let us use her warehouse conference area and show us around the costumes and wigs.

They learned about the various buttons and knobs in the equipment, just in case they ever need to step in when the DJ is busy elsewhere! He also showed how he beat mixes from one song into another song, and he let them give it their best shots. He explained some misconceptions about DJs, how to choose a quality DJ, the importance of back up equipment and songs, as well as some interesting situations he has encountered in his many years of DJ’ing.... THEIR TIPS FOR FINDING THE RIGHT DJ:

Questions to ask your DJ
1. How long have they been DJing? How many years have they been working weddings – specifically?
2. Do they have any videos of themselves emceeing at a wedding? (this can help you know if you like their emcee style)
3. Do they provide lighting (i.e. dance floor lights, uplighting, gobo light, etc.)?
4. What is their back-up plan in the case of equipment failure?
5. Can they provide a sound system and microphone for the ceremony also?
6. Do they have a list of suggestions they can share with you of special dances (Father-Daughter, Mother-Son, etc.)?
7. What will they wear at your wedding?
8. How do they feel about taking requests? (note: if you do not want them taking requests, they should be comfortable telling the guests that and not taking requests)
9. Will they want to have a final meeting or phone call with you shortly before the wedding?

Jack in the Box - Las Vegas

Wow!  I recently got to Video DJ the Circle of Excellence Awards for Jack in the Box at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas.  It was VERY COOL and I think a little weird to be impressed by meeting a fictional character...  Yes there really is a Jack its not all Hollywood lighting tricks.  He was really nice and interesting to talk to.
They started the night off with presenting awards to the top performers on the Jack in the Box Team.  Everything from Store managers to Management coaches that had exceeded goals throughout the last year.  Jack and other executives presented and posed with each recipient which really went over well.
After the presentation was over we fired up the Video Screens and danced to Music Videos ALLLLLL Night!  I think they danced for like 4 hours straight.  Top 40, Latin, Disco and 80s' they liked a little bit of everything.

It was a blast and my room on the 59th floor at the Cosmopolitan overlooking the Mandalay Bay Water Show wasn't bad either.  I hope I get to spin for this group again.

Video Dj Wedding at Marriott Mission Valley

This one was for about 300 people at the Marriott Mission Valley.  Video DJ with two 6ft x 8ft Rear projection video screens.  Jamie & Nick were a lot of fun and went all out for their wedding.  The Grand Entrance consisted of about 49 people in total including Parents, Primary and Secondary Sponsors, Bridal Party and the Bride and Groom.

We started off by introducing the Parents and Sponsors, then I played a video that Nick, the Groom, gave to me just before we started.  It was a fully pre-produced NFL style intro video for each bridal party member.  It was probably the most unique thing I'd seen for a wedding in a long time, it was great and the guests really loved it.  Each 20 second segment had a Statistics listing with a framed embedded video clip of the Bridesmaid or Groomsmen.  After the video finished, I introduced each couple Live and the guests were cheering like it was an actual football game.

After Dinner and the formal dances we got the dancefloor going with some Video DJ action and from there I think they would have danced all night.  The high point of the night was definitely when I mixed the Gangnam Style Video.  The 30ft by 30ft Dancefloor wasn't big enough to hold all the dancers.

Thank you to Danielle & Jared from Side By Side Cinema for putting together this Highlight Video of the day and to Wedding Coordinator - Meilani Garcia at Ellevent for keeping the track of the guests and timeline and really allow me to focus on the Video DJ'ing.

I didn't turn the camera on much that day but here is one short clip.

Wedding at Paradise Point

This isn't connected to the previous post (Beach Party at Paradise Point), just happens to be the order that I pulled the video footage.

Wade and Kristen were one of my funnest couples of the year.  Really fun and easy going and their friends were too, which made for a great party after dinner wiht plenty of old school dance favorites and some current hits too.

I provided music, wireless microphones and speakers for the ceremony on the lawn, which went off flawlessly except for the slightly overcast skies.  Then I Dj and provided 8 Amber Uplights, Dance Lights and 2 Cake mini spot lights to light the cake table in the Reception room.  The room looked incredible thanks to Rachel Welland at Bliss Events.

Beach Party at Paradise Point

This was a Corporate Beach party for about 30-35 people.  I was initially asked to just play beach vibe type music after the Hula Dance demonstration while they hung out and talked at the bar.  But maybe it was the random hotel guest that walked through the party and started doing parkour that got them going.

But about 80% of them jumped on stage and danced the rest of the night. I guess they just didn't want to dance in the sand.
